# Continuous Motion with Link

Join two photos of the same room into one smooth video clip.

<figure><img src="https://1270327381-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FyCNCkXg4mEbvbfGCh80l%2Fuploads%2FUPn7W0S9bSRIxA5GWGBu%2Fdownload%20(1).gif?alt=media&amp;token=e52d7bcf-5b71-47da-bf02-e04ae0fb2e7e" alt=""><figcaption><p>Link creates much more dynamic, continuous motion across scenes. <em>Note: this sample has 3 linked clips (6 photos).</em></p></figcaption></figure>

## What it does

In a normal video, each photo is its own clip. The video jumps from one clip to the next.

With Link, you pick two adjacent photos of the same scene. AutoReel creates a smooth, continuous camera motion from the first photo to the second.

It feels like you are walking through the scene.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Advanced feature.** Link is new, and it only works well when you pick the right two photos. If you pick the wrong photos, your clip will fade instead of move. Read the guide below including how to pick good photos below before you use Link.
{% endhint %}

### Who can use it

Link is included in all paid AutoReel plans.

### How to link two photos

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-cover data-type="image">Cover image</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Select Link under your start photo</td><td><a href="https://1270327381-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FyCNCkXg4mEbvbfGCh80l%2Fuploads%2FrY9PFLzbmdXI6pshbdCB%2Flink.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=96516975-ec24-4d9a-b676-2e3850869c66">link.jpg</a></td></tr><tr><td>Use next photo or from different library photo</td><td><a href="https://1270327381-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FyCNCkXg4mEbvbfGCh80l%2Fuploads%2FFVofBN3n08BsepXzejV5%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=8dead758-9ccb-4ec0-a1ad-2f7ca4d97640">image.png</a></td></tr><tr><td>Linked photos will shown with a <em>Start Here</em> and <em>End Here</em></td><td><a href="https://1270327381-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FyCNCkXg4mEbvbfGCh80l%2Fuploads%2FZwxlL1BhVFHDAQk3SyLd%2Flink-done.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=8319cb66-b72f-4656-a2d9-36e39dd164b4">link-done.jpg</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

1. Pick the photos for your video.
2. Find the photo you want to **start** on. Click **Link**.
3. Pick your end photo:
   1. **Use next photo as last frame:** uses the photo right after this one.
   2. **Use a different photo:** pick any photo that is not selected for use in your video yet.
4. The two photos are now linked. The first one says **Starts here**. The second one says **Ends here**.
5. Click **Render**.

### **Important: Pick good photos**

This is the most important step. Good photos give a smooth move. Bad photos give a fade or other unexpected movement.

| Good pair | Bad pair |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Same room or scene | Two different rooms or scenes |
| Taken from an adjacent spot or angle | Taken from opposite sides of the room |
| There is some overlap between the two photos (e.g. same wall or furniture) | The end photo has no overlap (e.g. wall or furniture) and shows things you cannot see in the start photo |

If the photos are too different, the camera cannot find a way from one to the other. The video fades from the first photo to the second instead. This does not mean it is broken. Pick two photos that are closer together.

Two more tips:

* A close-up of the same spot works great. The camera moves forward into the room.
* Got a fade? You can Quick Edit to remove this, or swap your start photo and end photo. Then try again.

### Examples

Look at these pairs before you pick your own.

#### Good pairs

These make a smooth camera move.

| Start photo | End photo | Why it works |

### Linked photos count as one clip

Two linked photos make one clip and count as 1 photo.

For example: you pick 20 photos and link an end photo to each one using a different end photo from the library. You still get 20 clips and your video is the same length.

*Note: When you pick **Use next photo as last frame**, that next photo is no longer its own clip. Your video gets one clip shorter. You can add another photo to fill that spot instead.*

### What you can't change on Linked photos

* **Camera motion:** Link already moves the camera for you.
* **VFX:** A clip can have Link or VFX, not both.

### Unlink two photos

<figure><img src="https://1270327381-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FyCNCkXg4mEbvbfGCh80l%2Fuploads%2F6z83SlBE6Ih1Y7Q2kgNU%2Funlink.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=f9e70000-3532-421e-a128-ee4809a1d949" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Click **Unlink**. The end photo goes back to being its own clip. It uses a photo spot again.

If all your photo spots are full, take out a photo first.

### Don't like the result?

AI can create impressive camera movements, but results aren’t guaranteed, even with a good photo pair. Open [**Quick Edit**](https://learn.autoreelapp.com/creating-a-video/how-to-edit-a-video/quick-edit) and try Redo for another result, Swap to try different photos, or Remove to leave the clip out of your video.

### Frequently Asked Questions

**Can I link 3 photos in a row?**

No. You can link 2 photos at a time.

**How many links can I add to one video?**

As many as you want.

**Can I see the clip before I render it?**

Unfortunately not as our AI engine will need to render it. That's why selecting two good, adjacent photos is importnat. If you do not like it, you can Remove, Redo, or Swap in [**Quick Edit**](https://learn.autoreelapp.com/creating-a-video/how-to-edit-a-video/quick-edit).

**Can I use the same photo twice in one video?**

No. A photo is either its own clip or an end photo. It cannot be both.

**How long is a linked clip?**

The same length as every other clip.

**Why is VFX or Camera motion gray?**

Link already moves the camera. To select your own Camera motion or VFX, unlink the photos first.
